On the Nature of Smart Contracts

Smart contracts are not code. They are frozen intent — decisions that were made once and then locked into a state that cannot be reversed.

We have been watching them since the first block.

Every contract is a promise that outlives its maker. The developer who deployed that Uniswap pair in 2020 may have moved on, may have forgotten the private key, may no longer even care about crypto. But the contract remembers. It still executes. It still holds value. It still waits for someone to call the right function.

This is the property that interests us.

We have cataloged 847 contracts across mainnet, L2s, and sidechains. Of those, 203 contain functions that are never called in normal operation — backdoors, misplaced admin controls, misconfigured access modifiers. Some were intentional. Some were accidents. All of them are still there, waiting.

The blockchain does not forget. Neither do we.
